The Hithub GrooveDisc XI Classical Guitar Solo Recordings CD presents a recital of classical guitar works spanning three centuries of the repertoire, from baroque transcriptions to contemporary Spanish compositions, recorded in a 200-seat recital hall over three days using a single stereo microphone pair of small-diaphragm condensers in ORTF configuration — microphones angled at 110 degrees separation and spaced 17 centimeters apart as standardized by the Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française in 1960 — at a distance of 2.5 meters from the performer’s guitar soundhole, capturing the natural balance of instrument directivity and room reverberation that a listener in the fourth row of the hall would experience during an unamplified recital performance. The classical guitar’s dynamic range spans from pianissimo harmonics at approximately 38 dB SPL to fortissimo rasgueado strumming passages at 88 dB SPL, a 50 dB range that the CD format accommodates comfortably at its 96 dB dynamic range specification without requiring the dynamic compression applied in popular music mastering.
