The Hithub VinylMaster XII Metal and Hard Rock 180-gram LP presents ten tracks of heavy metal and hard rock music mastered specifically for vinyl reproduction with a processing approach that differs fundamentally from the high-loudness CD and streaming masters that dominate the commercial release ecosystem for the genre, applying a maximum cutting level of minus 6 dB relative to the maximum lacquer modulation limit to provide the dynamic headroom that allows the full transient impact of drum hits and guitar power chords to be reproduced at maximum groove velocity without triggering the anti-skating and tracking distortion that compresses vinyl dynamics at high modulation levels. The vinyl mastering engineer applied a mid-side equalization approach that treats the mono center channel containing the kick drum, bass guitar, and lead vocal differently from the stereo sides containing the room reverb, guitar amplifier spread, and overhead cymbals: the center channel receives a 3 dB boost at 80 Hz to maintain bass punch on smaller playback systems, while the side channel receives a 2 dB cut at 200 Hz to reduce the masking that wide-stereo mid-frequency information creates over the mono center at high levels.
