The tape is supplied by a tape manufacturer operating since 1978 with continuous production through the cassette era’s peak and the format’s commercial decline, maintaining original coating formulation chemistry and slitting tolerances of plus or minus 0.013 millimeters across the 3.81-millimeter tape width. The cassette shell is injection-molded from transparent optical-clarity polystyrene with internal guide roller assemblies made from acetal copolymer, providing a surface finish of 0.4 micrometers Ra measured by profilometry, the smoothness specification required for stable tape guidance at the standard 4.76 centimeters per second transport speed.
