The Hithub VinylMaster Half-Speed Mastered 45 RPM 12-Inch Audiophile LP applies the half-speed mastering technique to the standard 45 RPM 12-inch format, cutting the lacquer at 22.5 RPM while simultaneously playing the source master at half speed, so that every frequency in the audio spectrum is transposed one octave lower and therefore cut at twice the groove wavelength it would occupy at standard cutting speed, with the result that the cutting stylus traces each wavelength with twice the precision and the groove walls contain twice the fine detail of a conventionally cut lacquer. The half-speed master requires the source audio to be time-stretched by two-fold using a resampling algorithm operating at 192 kHz internally to avoid resampling artifacts, then played into the cutting chain at standard 44.1 kHz output rate while the lathe rotates at 22.5 RPM, producing a lacquer that when played at the nominal 45 RPM speed reconstructs the original audio at its correct pitch and tempo. The high-frequency benefit of half-speed mastering is most pronounced above 10 kHz, where groove wavelengths become comparable to the cutting stylus radius of 2.6 micrometers and standard-speed cutting introduces tracing distortion. The 45 RPM 12-inch format provides a disc capacity of approximately twenty minutes per side at full cutting level, accommodating a focused album side selection of the most high-frequency-critical tracks.
